PPDT Practise Set

PPDT is one of the trickiest parts of your SSB Screening, which needs regular practice. In Earlier articles, we have explained the PPDT test and how to perform your best in the PPDT. Hope that article would have helped you in understanding how to write the best PPDT Story for your Screening Test. As PPDT requires practice, in this article, we will revise the major concepts and then see some of the frequently asked PPDT pictures at various SSB Centres.

What is PPDT and Its Procedure?

PPDT is one of the tests conducted on the first day of the SSB Interview. It is a part of the screening test, which is the first stage of the SSB Interview. The screening Test consists of

  1. OIR Test or Officer Intelligence Rating Test
  2. PPDT or Picture Perception and Description Test

Story Writing

In PPDT, all the candidates are assembled in a testing hall and shown a hazy picture. You have to observe the picture minutely and try to understand what is shown in the picture – as how many characters are there, what their age and mood are, what the action is going on in the picture, and other objects present in that. Based on these details you have to write a short story as to what led to this action, what is the action going on, and what will be its outcome – positive or negative – if any from the action.

The picture will be shown for 30 seconds. After that, you will get around 4 minutes to write a story on it.
You will be given a sheet in which there will be Box and a blank space below it. You have to mention the details of the characters – the number of characters, their age, and mood – in the box and then write a story in the blank space below. You also have to mention the action happening in the picture. Your time to write the story will start just after the projected picture goes off. After 4 minutes, a bell will ring to indicate that time is up. After that, they will collect your answer sheet.

Narration Part

The story doesn’t end after writing the story. Once they collect your answer sheet – in which you have written your story, all the candidates will be moved outside the testing hall. The entire batch will be divided into small groups of 12 to 14 candidates generally based on your chest numbers.

Now you have to perform in-group. Your group will be called – and you will be handed back your answer sheets. Then they will ask you to narrate your story one by one. Once individual narration of the story is complete – then they will ask the group to discuss the story among themselves – and arrive at a common story. This is like a group discussion – in which every candidate gives his or her perception of the picture.

The group has to discuss and arrive at a common story. There will be a time limit for this discussion, but if the discussion is not heading anywhere, the assessors will stop the discussion and further divide the group into two halves. Even after this division, the discussion becomes a fish market, then will disqualify the group.

Once the group arrives at a common story, then they have to select any group member to narrate the story.

They prepared a road map on implementing solar systems for major offices of the village and street lights. They also planned to set up a biogas plant. After finalizing the roadmap, they took all the government’s help to implement their plan. This usage of solar energy reduced the electricity bill of the village office and helped common people to get a better electricity supply. The First biogas plant was successful and covered almost 20% of the village. All the villagers praised Rahul’s efforts. Even the DDO Office also felicitated Rahul for his efforts.
