What is the importance of the Final Group Task (FGT)? | Lets Crack SSB

The final Group Task is the last task of the GTO series and the final task before the Conference after which the SSB Interview ends. So, the final Group Task is conducted on the 4th day of the SSB Interview. This task acts as a last possibility or chance for you to showcase your abilities if you have missed the earlier tasks. There is a general misconception that Final Group Task doesn’t have any importance in the selection process. This would have been true, then this task would have been scrapped from the selection procedure long ago. Just remember that every task conducted in the SSB Interview is important and affects your SSB selection. Thus you should maintain the same energy and enthusiasm as while performing the Final Group Task as all other tasks. In this article, we will understand what is Final Group Task and some tips by which you can perform your best in the Final Group Task.

So, let’s start by understanding the task and what is the procedure for conducting the Final Group Task.

What is Final Group Task (FGT)?

The Final Group Task as the name suggests is the final task of your GTO series, which you perform in a group. In this task, your group will be given a single task similar to that of Progressive Group Task (PGT) or Half Group Task (HGT). All the rules and regulations will be the same as applicable to all other ground tasks.

Through this task, the GTO takes a final look at all the candidates. This would be your fourth such ground task in which you have to clear some obstacles with the help of given helping material and carry the load from the start line to the finish line with predefined rules. Thus, there will be more familiar with such obstacles. Further, there will be more coordination and understanding among the group. So, this task will complete quickly. Thus, you should be active and ensure that you do not lag behind in pation.

Why Final Group Task (FGT) is conducted?

The Final Group Task serves two purposes for the GTO.

First, through this test, the GTO checks some qualities of the candidates. Some of them are

  • Practical Knowledge and its application
  • Effective Intelligence
  • Organizing Ability
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Courage
  • Social Adaptability
  • Working in a group
  • Leadership skills
  • Cooperative
  • Influencing and convincing skills

The second purpose of the task is to give the final touches to your GTO marking. If you are a borderline case – which means that you have performed well in some tasks while not up to the mark in some other tasks, then your performance in this task will be your deciding factor. Thus, ensure that you give your best in the Final Group Task.

The Procedure of Final Group Task (FGT)

  1. The GTO will assemble all the candidates and call every group individually towards their task.
  2. When one group performs the task, another group is not allowed to watch the task.
  3. Once all the members of the group reach near the obstacle, the GTO will show all the structures one by one and will explain the same. The GTO will brief the group about the start line and the finish line, the helping material given for the task, and the load the group has to transfer from the start line to the finish line.
  4. The GTO will explain all the rules and regulations – like the color rule, distance rule, infinity rule, and rigidity rule. These rules are the same, which we have discussed earlier in the Progressive Group Task article.
  5. Once the GTO finishes their briefing, the candidates can ask their doubts, if any. If no one has any doubts, then the GTO asks the group to reach the start line and asks them to start the task.
  6. Now the group has to reach the finish line using the helping material and negotiating the structure by them.
  7. During the task, the GTO notices and observes each candidate and makes notes and marks for every candidate.
  8. Once the Group has finished the task or if the GTO feels that the group has reached its limit, they will ask the group to stop and keep all the material at the start line.
  9. Once every group has completed the task, the GTO will assemble all the candidates for the last GTO briefing which they will motivate and encourage.

Rules of Final Group Task (FGT)

The rules of the Final Group Task are similar to that of all other obstacle tasks like – Progressive Group Task or Half Group Task. Let’s just review them briefly.

  1. Colour rule: Different structures will be painted in different colors – RED / BLUE or YELLOW / WHITE
  1. White Colour – Both Helping Material and candidates can touch.
  2. Blue/yellow – Only candidate can stand or touch but you cannot keep any helping material.
  3. Red –Both candidates and the helping materials cannot touch the red-colored structure. The Ground is also considered out of bounds for both candidates and helping material.
  4. Rigidity rule: Two helping items like – Balli or fatta – cannot be tied together to each other. Though, it can be knotted with the structures.
  5. Distance rule: Distance more than 4 feet cannot be jumped. Distance more than 4 feet has to be bridged with helping material.
  6. Rule of infinity: The start and the finish line are extended to infinity and the candidates cannot directly cross these lines.

Tips to Excel in Final Group Task (FGT)

  • The First step of doing your best will understand the task well. This can be done by attentively listening to the briefing given by the GTO before the start of the task. Every minutest detail has to be noted – which will help in your task.
  • Use simple physics knowledge like –  cantilever and fulcrum, or the law of the lever to clear the majority of the objects.
  • As this is a group task, so you should be cooperative with your group members. If anyone has a good plan, try to implement that. If you have any point to add, then convince the group to implement that.
  • Participate in the task with the same enthusiasm and energy as you have done for all other tasks. As there is a single obstacle to cover, it will happen in no time, so be quick and active in your participation and give workable ideas to the group.
  • Always have a positive mind frame.
  • However, it is a leaderless task, but it will be good if you lead the task.
  • If your ideas do not work, do not get irritated, get angry, or use foul language. Keep your cool and your next idea will work.
  • Be relaxed while performing the task and do not come under any type of pressure.
  • Never look at the GTO while performing your Task
  • Help other members of the group in handling the helping material
  • Be cautious that you don’t violate any rules. If you do so, be honest and accept the punishment given by the GTO.
  • If you remember any idea used by any other members of your group in an earlier task, then do mention their chest number and give them due credit.

Last Briefing of the GTO

After completing the Final Group Task – all the task ends and the GTO assembles all the candidates and gives the last and final briefing. This will be a consulting session, in which they will counsel you about different selection aspects and their details. They will also motivate and prepare for your results the next day. The GTO will also give details about the Conference that will happen on the next day. If you have any doubts, you can ask them to the GTO. Just remember that your question should be sensible.

Thus, the Final Group Task is playing a game, which requires many OLQs. Hope now you would be more aware of the FINAL GROUP TASK (FGT). If you have any queries about the task or need an article or any specific topic, do mention them in the comment section or mail directly to [email protected].
