Territorial Army (TA) 2021 Notification with Exam Dates

The latest update on the Territorial Army (TA) 2021 notification and with exam dates is out.

As per the notification, applications are invited from gainfully employed citizens – either self-employed or working in any organization, for serving in the regular army without sacrificing their prime profession. The territorial Army is basically for those people who want to serve the nation in two capacities simultaneously, one as a soldier and the other as their primary regular profession.

How to Apply for TA 2021?

• As per the Territorial Army (TA) 2021 Notification, the Candidates can only apply through online mode by filling out the application form on the website www.jointerritorialarmy.gov.in. Instructions on how to fill out the Application Form have been given on the website.
• The Online application form will be active from 20 July 2021 to 19 August 2021 till 11.59 PM only after which the link will be deactivated.
• The candidates must double-check all the details filled by them while filling out their Application Form, especially their E-mail ID and contact details, as the concerned authorities may use electronic mode to communicate at different stages of the selection process.
• The application forms must be applied online well in time.
• The written and PIB Interviews are held in selected cities of the country. The candidate must ensure which center they should select as the change of center is not allowed later.
• Do keep a copy of the online filled application form for future reference.

Basic Eligibility Criteria

• Nationality: Only People (male and female) having Indian Citizenship can apply.
• Age Limits: The candidate should be between 18 to 42 years as of 19 Aug 2021.
• Educational Qualifications: The candidate must be a Graduate of a recognized university.
• Employment: Only those Candidates who are Gainfully Employed are eligible.

Note that Current Employees of the Regular Army/ Navy/ Air Force/ Police/ GREF/ Para Military and other like forces are not ineligible to apply for Territorial Army.

Selection Procedure of Territorial Army

• The Candidates whose application forms will be found complete and correct will be called for a written screening exam. The written exam consists of 2 papers of 2 hours each.
• The short-listed applicants who have passed the written exam will be then called by a Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) by the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters.
• Those candidates who will be successful in clearing the PIB Interview will be called for the Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview.
• The recommended candidates will be then medically examined by the respective Medical Board for final selection.
• The Total Vacancies of male and female candidates will be finalized as per organizational requirements.

Written Exam – Syllabus with Topics

• The level of questions asked in the written exam of the Elementary Mathematics subject will be a Matriculation level. The questions on other subjects will be on graduation levels.

Training process after selection

All the selected candidates have to undergo training as per the below schedule

• Every candidate has to attend 1 month of basic training in the 1^st year of commission.
• They also have to attend 2 months annual training camp every year including the first year.
• Then candidates have to undergo 3 months of Post Commissioning training within the first two years at OTA, Chennai.

Terms and conditions of service in the Territorial Army

1. The territorial Army is a part-time concept with mandatory two months of training in a year and does not provide a full-time career.
2. Serving in Territorial Army does not guarantee pension and the same is subject to embodied service as per organizational requirements.
3. On selection, the candidate will be granted the rank of Lieutenant.
4. Pay Allowances and privileges will be the same as for Regular Army Officers when embodied for training and military service.
5. Promotions up to Lt Col by time scale subject to fulfilling laid down criteria. Further promotion to the ranks of Colonel and Brigadier will be done on a selection basis.
6. Officers commissioned in Infantry TA may be called out for military service for a longer duration depending on the requirement.

List of Documents Required at PIB Interview

All the Candidates who clear the written test and are called for the Preliminary Interview Board have to carry the below documents in original along with self-attested copies for the PIB Interview.

1. Application Form IAF (TA)-9 (Revised) Part-2 is available online and has to be downloaded from www.jointerritorialarmy.gov.in. This form has to be filled with their own handwriting.
2. Educational mark sheets and Certificates from 10^th Standard onwards.
3. Latest physical fitness certificate issued by a registered MBBS Doctor
4. Copy of Photo Identity Proof (Voter ID/PAN Card/Passport/Driving license etc).
5. A copy of Domicile or Residential proof
6. Age proof certificate. (Generally, it is mentioned in the 10^th or 12^th mark sheet or certificate.)
7. All the candidates serving in the Central Govt/ Union Territory/ State/Semi Govt/ Private Sector have to provide a Service Certificate duly authenticated by their Head Office along with a salary certificate and No Objection Certificate by the department as per the format given in the notification.
8. If the candidate is Self-employed then they are required to submit an Affidavit on Non-Judicial stamp paper of minimum value duly attested, which has details of the nature of their occupation and yearly profit/earning along with a photocopy of a PAN card and self-certified character certificate.
9. If there is any mismatch or variation of names in documents, then the candidate should submit a copy of Gazetted notification of India/ State which shows the correct name, or an affidavit duly assisted with its newspaper cuttings.

    1. The Latest filed Income Tax Return (ITR) copy
11. The Railway employees are required to submit a No Objection Certificate approved by their Railway Board.

What is gainfully employed?

A Gainfully employed person is one who has a job or business and they are earning from it. For Income and earning proof, they will check your latest filed income tax returns, Form-16, etc. These are the records that will be checked during the PIB interview process.

Who are Not Eligible? – Current employees of the Regular Army/ Navy/ Air Force/ Police/ GREF/ Para Military and like forces and Students.
